I would say no. I tested this. I opened the browser multiple times using different methods by the same user, even invoking with just 'firefox &' a few times. Each time a new instance of Firefox without a mention of profiles or otherwise. If opened requesting a new tab instead of a new instance, it also works as requested. They did something to fix that crap.
