Right, there is basically no difference. I was thinking more about the situation where they do have it set but have a typo like $PM-DEST. Then you'd get part of the system in / and part in PM_DEST. In the end, I'm sorry I've argued as much as I have because this is a good technique, and I don't care enough whether it's in the book or not.
