I will be on vacation for a week, otherwise I'd run through it again carefully. But I believe I followed the book exactly to that point, and I had an ldd that listed /lib/ld-linux.so.2 and /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, which then caused the glibc install to fail.
