Would you mind posting this to the lfs-support mailinglist? I'm not sure if you are already subscribed there, so we'll wait for you cue by waiting for your posting. If you could include the output from the "readelf -l a.out" command as described in chapter 6's "Re-adjusting the Toolchain" that would be helpful, too.
