It'd be best to form a bandwidth co-op. I've been planning to spend over $100 a month to get static ips to my house to host non-profit (and non-linux) projects. I dislike leased colocations because they charge extra for storage, and memory, some charge for reboots, and most often they oversell their services. If we could all pool our money together for a shared non-profit system I'm sure it would be more economical for everyone involved. The main problem with this is the stability of the income. Everyone always pays the first month, but after six months several participants will lose interest. Maybe someone knows a friendly isp who will adjust charges month to month based on usage. Also, it would be a nice kick if the server was a legal non-profit company, maybe some sort of charity, so that contributions could be tax deductable (this would have to be reproduced in every country involved, ie: canada and usa).
