Dear All, and more particularly Steve Crosby,
you have me
bang to rights.  With hindsight I really should have checked the "live"
versions of LFS for glibc-2.3.5-related patches.  Oops!
  Anyway, after that my shiny new LFS system boots just fine.
Time to back it all up...
