Hey all,

I've just put up a new livecd iso. This is version x86-6.1-1-pre3. There are still a few known missing items that we will put in the next iso, and hopefully that one will be a release candidate. However, there are some substantially new features with this cd, so we wanted to give the community an opportunity to test it out before we release. Here's a brief rundown of the new features:

* Unionfs - For those who aren't familiar with unionfs, I'll explain it briefly. It's a filesystem in RAM that sits on "top" of your file tree and acts as a filter. It keeps track of modifications to the file system. In effect, it allows a read-only filesystem to become read-write. So. With the new livecd, the *entire* cd is writable. :)

* Autosshd script. If you boot the cd and don't enter any parameters at the boot prompt, (ie., you boot a system that has no kvm connected) the cd will start up the sshd daemon with a default password of "lfs" for root.

* Better i18n support - Many packages have been tweaked to allow several locales to function properly. Additional fonts have been added to help in this regard as well.

* Ion & Xfce - Two window managers replace fluxbox on this version of the cd. Ion is a *very* minimilastic wm and xfce is a little more featured while still lightweight. Xfce has a very intuitive feel and should be easy for nearly anyone to use. Xfce is the default choice on the cd. If you want to try ion, simply edit the .xinitrc file to read 'exec ion'

* Thunderbird added (for use with nntp servers and the ability to send support emails)

That's just a quick list. The new iso is at the moment, only on the lfs-matrix.net server. It will be spread out as I have time. (Any of you mirror admins that are reading this, feel free to grab the iso and place it on your server.)

Thanks, and have fun!
