The book lists the disk space used after installation including the 
not-yet-removed source tree. This will give you an accurate picture how much 
disk space you need to build the package including the temporary space 
required. After you remove said source tree, you will use a lot less of 
course. For instance, Glibc isn't 768 MB after installation. It includes the 
glibc-$version and glibc-build directories.
