I just finished building a 64 bit lfs system based on
6.1-testing-20050205, with a few modifications, namely glibc-2.3.4,
bin86 and lilo so I would have a total 64 bit system. The system booted
and is running very stable.
I just wanted to thank you all for your help, I asked several questions
on this list. Mostly I would like to thank and recommend to anyone
trying this, Ryan Oliver's cross lfs scripts
(http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/~ryan/scripts/cross-lfs/) and wiki
(http://wiki.linuxfromscratch.org/index.php?pagename=CrossLfs) for the
chapter 5 cross toolchain and Chris Lingard and Jeremy Utley for their
64 bit makefile and x86_64 patches (unfortunatley I lost the link to
their page and can not find it). These were invaluable in building the
system without tearing my hair out. If anyone is trying this and needs
help just drop me a line.
I installed the system with /lib64 and /usr/lib64, I think I am going to
try and rebuild another system using just /lib and /usr/lib since I will
be using a 64 bit only system so you will be hearing from me again. :)
