Sorry, if my question might sound heretical, but why should I - as a user or as a devoloper - want to run Leo in a browser? What would be the benefit, the value added?
I tried to find the answer in the recent threads. If I've read them correctly the idea of a LeoWapp came up around mid of October. Since then, there were mainly discussions if and how it can be done, but hardly discussions, if it should be done. Are there any compelling use cases that justify this effort - apart from the sheer fun (or agony) of doing it? I myself jumped on the bandwagon. For some days, I took on the task learning to use Flexx. And sure enough and not unexpectedly, I was put back on almost square one of framework hell. The simplest things - like figuring out how to resize a widget or change a font size - took way too much time - as is usual with new frameworks. So the questions arose: Is it worth my time? Would it pay off? For my own projects, I've worked with Python, Qt/PyQt, Tkinter on the 'conventional' side and Node, Javascript, Vue, HTML, CSS, CouchDB on the 'web' side; and I've always found it harder to use web technologies. One of the reasons for working with servers and websockets on local machines are the limited capabilities of JavaScript to access the local filesystem. Today, I learned by chance that Qt (the company) made 'Qt for Python' (aka PySide2) an official member of the Qt software family, promising a long term commitment to the product (https://www.qt.io/qt-for-python). Digging deeper into this topic I found two videos comparing Qt technologies to web technologies. They might be valuable for future decisions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4CwVN9RRbE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ropVUkdKNqs -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "leo-editor" group.
