One of our group a number of years back used an bowling ball to do the very same thing for a tilting table. His version worked well for him.I have a universal turning jig. that I made for my lathe that also works on the same principle. The vise jaws have wood pads with "V"'s to aid in gripping irregular carved objects.I have a side grinder mounted in the vise here. The 1-1/2.in. plank also rotates on a heavy pin at the end of a bench so that I can push it out of the way when not in use. Obviously, a second plank with dog-holes similar to the Veritas one could be mounted in lieu of the vise.Ed Trevillian
