Hello, this post was a trip down memory lane. Thanks Ed 👍
I, too, have this book and had planned to make an “router lathe” until I came across Legacy presenting a mill at a Woodworking show. The rest is history, but I am sure I still have that book around somewhere.

 Good morning Ed.
Yes I have seen this OT lathe before. Over all it is a pretty nice machine. But as you stated the Legacy 1500 is a much better machine. For YEARS my mind thought was going bigger and then bigger with my wood turning. (I told many people in our group, that one day I was going to make a barley twisted telephone pole.) ;-) Today I am looking more on higher quality of work, going smaller instead of larger. this main factor is form the standpoint that I just do not have the room it takes to go larger. Plus the smaller the machine is, the easer it is to store when not in use. Plus as my skills have improved, my views have focused on the more finer details that I could not do in the past. It has nothing to do with the Legacy its self, it just as I grow I now see more . The term Ornamental turning has gone for me, from just roping and fluting, into more ornate quality of craftsmanship. I am pretty happy with all the MOD's that I have made for my Legacy's, (both my 1000ex and my 200) but trying to make a new machine is intriguing to me. One that I most likely will be making in the future. Thank you for the OT attached file. Im sure others in the group will enjoy seeing this, as much as I have. Have a good day.
P.S. I am posting two photo's of my 200 and 1000ex. just to show people some of the MOD's that I have done.

Thank you Curt, Yes, life is a journey. The good news is that at least I am smart enough to know that I have a whole lot to learn from you & others. In one of your recent notes, you mentioned using bicycle gears as a part of a home-made LOM. Perhaps this thought originated in this article. I suspect you have seen this, but in case you have not, please see the ATTACHED 29 pg article. This was published in a book; I just forget the title. But I have it out in the shop- so if you want the author & title or a better copy, I can get it for you. I started to build this but stopped when I stumbled upon my opportunity to buy my LOM 1500. But life has happened, and it has taken me several years to refocusing on the LOM. – Just trying to give back a little of the gracious teaching you and others have shared with me. Life is an adventure. Day Dreaming about a better machine is something I have though a lot about. the Legacy is a Great machine, for what it dose. but having said that, I feel its only a stepping stone/ tool to be used To grow beyond where we are at. Here are some photo's of what I did with my modal 200. I am very happy with my machine, it dose exactly what I made it to do.
In these 3 photos. You can see my counter weighted balancing system. fine template depth control, and spindle motor/gear set up. Plus a free standing legs and grinder replacement for the carriage Just some idea, that all tend to make my machine to working better.

I will be anxious to see how your ideas play out. Please keep me posted. Hello Everyone. (Just got home from work.)
Ed. gears are old school, (I do like them.) but I was thinking of a way people with in our group could make there own machines. If Im honest with you, I could have them made, but as all things the more that I can not do my self, the more money it will take to have the job done by others. On my 200, I used a set of Legacy gearing, with the banjo and everything that the Legacy (larger units have.) And I am very happy with the job that I have done. But I was thinking of something different for the next machine, I really dont know what it is, that I want at this time. but something different. I originally was thinking of servo motors. and a basic CNC program could be used to keep this machine small. but then other idea's started to pop up. Like using bike chain and or a gear box idea... then I started switching gears. (excuse the pun.) ;-) and thinking about basic design, Why not have it work like the REVO with full unconstructed view of the parts as they are being cut. instead of being inside the rails of a machine.
What I am chasing is/are, ideas and dream, Hoping that others with in Our group could join in on the "Day Dream" of making a better machine. My goal is to go small, but to keep the ability's that the Legacy Ornamental Mill can do. + more. ;-)
Not trying to change the topic... What do you all think of a router head like the Nora mill for this machine?
Have a good night.

I imagine these skills would fill the void you are after- designing and making gears based on your requirements- gear ratios, axises separations, etc. Perhaps one of us can conceive a way to connect with a few of these people who might work with us. I also suspect that many machinist's might fill this skill need. HI everyone. Was just looking and found this photo. (yes its marked REVO but it is the Legacy 200) I have asked the question in the past. But I think I will again. HOW To make a better mousetrap. this little machine should not be all that hard to make, using parts like linear slides. But the gearing would be a problem. I was just thinking, how about an electronic gear box or sorts? I dont know much about CNC, but would it be hard to make a simple program for a small machine like this? servo motors are cheap, gearing although old school is much harder to make today. Could it be done at a reasonable price? What would be the best way to make this type of small machine????
