The ways and means are the same as in any other administration. Blind eyes stop
being turned to minor infringements resulting in small but reputation damaging
punishments. Also damaging stories start to come out from unnamed sources. If
they needed a reason for not bringing the World Cup to England, they have been
gifted it.

Believe me they do have the power and The FA will have to put in a lot of work
to mitigate the fall out from suggesting that two member associations of FIFA
would resort to bribery, even if it was said in jest. I would love the World
Cup to be played in England, not just for the football but I also would have
the opportunity to get involved behind the scenes. If The Mail on Sun, Miss MJ
and Lord T have scuppered that, then I'll be really disappointed.

What "ways and means" are these, Brian - you credit these guys with too much
power.

It's in FIFA's interests to have 2018 in England as they will fill their
coffers much more plentifully here than anywhere else.

In any case, how is what Triesman said any more scandalous than the racist
rantings of Jack Warner, for example ?

Let's face it, Triesman is off the radar, he doesn't represent the bid or the
FA, so his (off the record) comments whilst trying to pull some lass are
irrelevant.

Cheers,

Al

As someone who works in football administration although at a much lower lever
than FIFA, I can say that it is never wise to piss off an administrator as they
have ways and means of making sure you suffer.

They also have incredibly long memories

Pete,

Have to say it's a bit OTT to say "sacrifice a World Cup" - this issue will not
affect our bid negatively when voting takes place in December, it will all have
been forgotten about.

Matt,

"some suggestion" - sounds like journo-speak to me !

Absolutely no chance of that happening, and if we don't get awarded 2018 it
will not be because of anything to do with this, but more to do with political
lobbying.

This will all blow over before you know it - there's more than 6 months until
the vote.
All it does is gives ammunition to those sad old sods who don't want the event
here and to hacks who love writing about so-called bad news rather than good.

Cheers,

Al
