>From what I read Kelly did NOT agree to drop his salary, his best offer was
to drop his appearance/bonus money by half, and even then want it all back
should we get promoted.

So to put this into perspective, the average squad salary was, what, £5k
week?

Kelly would have been getting £28k per week plus £4k per match (often 2
matches a week). His best offer was to take £28k per week plus a miserly
£2k per match.

If he had played every league match that would have saved LUFC £92k over the
season, little more than 3 weeks salary for Kelly.

Not Kelly's fault he was being paid that much. No obligation for him to
drop his salary. But I can see why Wise wouldn't have seen that offer as
indicating he wanted to pull on that white shirt at all costs..

But Mark, according to Bates, Kelly did agree to drop his salary. According
to Bates it was Bates himself who wouldn't agree to Kelly's proposition.
Personally I find it incredible that Bates wouldn't take the risk on Kelly -

there's no obvious financial reason for that rejection - which gives rise to

the speculation that there were other factors at work. Dare one think
perhaps Wise's relationships with his players?

PS Wilko out too ;))
