>From a Boro supporting mate of mine: What have the Championship and a cordless drill got in common?
No Leeds To which I naturally responding by saying at least we're not kiddie fiddlers ... Anyway, coming from the 'glass is half full' brigade, I see rumours (yes, that's all they are but ...) are abound that three consortiums are sniffing around, two of which want to use Kells as 'the front man' ala Niall Quinn at Sunderland. Heard this early this week and it's just surfaced in the Yorkshire Post, one is a group of 'Irish Businessmen' (And beleive you me there is a shedload of money if the RoI at the moment), I had even heard from one REASONABLY reliant source that one of the men errm interested was JP Magnier, the guy who sold Man Utd to that freaky looking Yank and his army of sons. The other interesting name is Bill Gates' right hand man at Microsoft, Paul Allen (Not son of Dave, sadly!). Now, I know this is all supposition and quite possibly born out of desperation but think about it. People, it would seem particularly rich Yanks, are keen to 'buy in' to the game. What do you buy? Well say Portsmouth would alledgedly cost you around £100M, plus then you've to invest heavily on the ground and the squad to push on. EVen then you have a relatively unfashionable team with a decent but not huge fan base. OR ... For probably a tenth of that you can buy us, buy the ground back for £18M (Does that price include the training ground?) and then for just over a quarter of the Pompey price you have a much bigger fan (customer?) base, a name that is recognised around the world and can rebuild a (Hopefully) League one winning squad for £10M, not only do you then become owner of another big club, you get the kudos (And lets face it, all these people are egomaniacs!) of being 'the saviour of Leeds United'. I honestly believe that we are THE most perfect club to buy right now! A good investor ALWAYS buys his stock when it's at it's lowest ... _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
