Fucking hell, we are a right old bunch of lovesick muppets, fawning over a
bunch of grown men kicking a ball around for a living. Sounds kinda weird
when you commit it to paper.

I agree that it is a love supreme that transcends many entities, each one
which would on it's own be doomed to failure, yet when they are combined
evoke a strange emotive force, I think that one of the reasons that we
cannot quantify the feelings we have for the club is down to our first taste
of the action.

I remember going to ER as a 5 yr old in the post glory year era of 1975, I
don't remember who we played or what the score was (I was only 5 and
therefore had better things to worry about, my new bike and Lego being two
of them) but I do remember that I really liked it, I remember the smells,
the noise, standing on a stool, the pies.
And that is the problem, I think that most of us have taken to our first
game in our formative years, we don't make a conscious decision to go we get
taken by our dads/uncles/grandads, generally our first proper foray into a
real grown-up world and we like it and begin the cycle. As kids it was
probably one of the things that we get passionate about, it is one of the
first things we fight about at school, and as we get older we carry on
going, etc. We meet people in exactly the same spot of terracing every week,
share sweets, fags, farts, coughs and colds and we enjoy the roller coaster
ride that it takes us on and we enjoy being part of an ever increasing
community.

I am sure that there are folk out in interweb world that will tell us that
it is some sort of tribal instinct and they are probably right. Where is Dr
Mike when you bloody need him ;o)

I think the fact that we love leeds so much (and other supporters with their
clubs (apart from manure, chelski who can fuck right off) is always going to
cause issues with those that have a finger in running the football
corporations, they know that we are willing to follow our team 'in sickness
and in health' and they will take advantage and they will tell us that they
need to increase the ticket prices because they have just heard from an
agent that the latest natural born goalscorer is just about to be born. We
pay the money and nothing changes, they promise, we pay ad infinitum.

Col Saunders knows at this moment in time that just as many folk will stream
through the gates at ER next season, in fact, those of us that are not
season ticket holders (for one reason or another) will probably go to more
games next season, why, because this is our leeds and nobody fucks about
with it (back to the playground mentality) and we will want to show the
world that we are better than they are.

Anyway, I waffled on for a bit too long, my dog looks like he needs a piss.
I'm off for a walk.

Cheers

Briggsy
