I never ducked out of the Blackwell debate, if I recall it was you who did just that. Specifically stating that Blackwell was clueless and anyone would do better. I was one of those people saying that, actually, he wasn't doing such a shit job and what were the alternatives.
Anyhow, Boycott was a great batsman, but primarily a great test player. Of course he scored runs, he was technically excellent, however what that particular stat doesn't tell you is how long he was at the crease or his run rate. I remember watching one dayers back then and it was often joked in the comms that England would send someone out to run him out cos he wasn't scoring quickly enough. Thats my point. These days, at World Cup level, the pressure on the top order is to score runs quickly. Some players just aren't suited to it. And vice versa - some players don't have the discipline to bat a whole day at test level. But you being a top quality cricketer should know all this already. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Richard Walker Sent: 19 April 2007 18:36 To: Phill Shields; [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [email protected] Subject: Re: [LU] Moving on ... Come on Mark, eat your fucking words !! You ducked out of the Blackwell debate - now show some bollocks and admit what a stupid statement that was about Boycott. --- Phill Shields <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Tim > > it was actually 146 against Surrey when we tonked > them in the Gillette Cup > final.
