That you are utterly pissed off with what we've seen today is a given. As, I think, should be any right minded Englishman. To dump our batting ineptitude solely on the doorstep of the captain does seem a tad like looking for a scapegoat IMHO. What would the effect have been of Vaughan NOT batting today? Would Pietersen, Flintoff or Strauss have scored a hundred? Doubtful, lets face it they are ALL sh*t not just Vaughan - they are all overhyped by our media.
I have no idea why on earth you were looking forward to this World Cup though. It certainly shouldn't have been because you harboured any belief that we might win it anyway. England ARE a sh*t one day team and have been for years. We, lost 5-1 in India last winter, were whitewashed by Sri Lanka in the summer and managed, with a bit of help from the weather, to draw a one day series with Pakistan (who are already home you might recall), then through some strange quirk of luck we managed, despite being mullered all winter by the Aussies, to win some tin pot triangular series. We nearly had to pre qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy where we won one game against an already qualified team. We played 20 ODI last year and won 5! Vaughan didn't play in any of them by the way. Not that he's 'played' in any of them this year either. So, am I disappointed? - you bet I am. Was our abject failure unexpected? Not really, in fact I thought we'd have been home before the Indians and Pakistani's to be honest. The most disappointing thing is that should we beat the Windies we'll finish 5th - are we really THAT good to be thought of as 5th best in the world?
