Surprised slightly younger old gits haven't mentioned the article on the 72
cup winning campaign in the recent LLL, especially the Don's comments on
the
golden haired one. Don believed Sprake could pull off saves no other
goalkeeper in the world would get anywhere near; apparently he single
handedly (no pun intended!) kept us in the 1965 Cup Final when we were
battered by Liverpool for virtually the entire 120 minutes. On the
downside
though, the Don also thought that Sprake didn't make all the bread and
butter saves he should have made. He thought exactly the opposite of
Harvey, but conceded that he wouldn't have got anywhere near some of the
saves Sprake pulled off - any old gits care to comment?
Leeds would have won far more trophies with Harvey. Despite his skill,
Sprake had a concentration problem that unnerved his whole defence (and us
fans!). Harvey was one of the most unflappable keepers we've ever had.
