You have been misled, Michael.
Rick Duniec NEVER wanted to front anything.
He, Steve Cooke and a few others felt that the fans could, if necessary,
save Leeds United Football Club from the disaster that was Leeds United PLC
all those years ago.
Both had differing approaches to the task.
Steve Cooke felt that a blaze of publicity coupled with a few war cries and
the odd millionaire would do the trick, whilst Rick always felt that a few
more prudent steps were needed first.
Steve began to believe that Rick's caution was procrastination and attempted
on several occasions to force Rick into action and into betraying trusts
that Rick had built up with some of the main players in the eventual
takeover of Leeds United by Krasner et al. Rick to his credit still refuses
to betray the trusts nor to gain personal kudos by broadcasting publicly
just exactly who he was in frequent contact with at the time. Neither will
he publicly admit just how close he came to producing a coordinated and
possibly successful rescue attempt.
The 'About what ??????' then was the saving of Leeds United by the fans and
before everyone screams can't be done, couldn't be done, blah di blah blah
with a club our size, then one has to look no further than Leicester City
for proof that it can and has been done before or Krasner and co themselves
who didn't have a pot to p*ss in either and were all 'allegedly' fans.
There's no Walter Mitty scenario at all, both Steve and Rick, amongst
others, did have regular conversations with a variety of rich and powerful
Leeds United fans - though how big a fan any of them were is reflected by
their absence in the rescue of the club.
Cheers
Paul
