This seems a bit of an over-reaction - given that i think most of us thought that with Kelly. Kilgallon, Derry, Nicholls, Healy, Cresswell - we at least had the basis of a team that were simply under-performing and could be competitive in this division if properly motivated. Can't really grumble with Butler and Gregan going. Sullivan seems a bit odd given that we don't own any other keepers But the apparent falling out of favour of Killer, Kelly, Healy and maybe Cresswell seems a huge waste. I doubt we can afford to buy players of their quality anymore - so it could be a long grind back. Transfer window could be key - and i'd have to say on the basis of his loan signings the jury is still out on DW judgement. Matt >
I'm looking at it slightly more optimistically. We got 3 points from the last 8 games before DFW took over. At the beginning of season such a total from the first 8 matches would condemn you to relegation before the season had really started. Since then 10 points from 8 games. Not pulling up any trees, but a huge improvement. 10 points every 8 games would get us to 50 points from 45 - safety just!! For this season at least we have to remember where we were when DFW took over. Christ I'm already beginning to sound like the KB apologists over the last couple of years, of which I was one for a long while. As for players like Healy & Kilgallon. This season niether has shown anything like premiership form, and a PL mananger would be a fool to think either is the answer to his prayers. The best they could get is a Championship team on the promotion/play-off fringe. It has worried me that over the past few years we have bought players who looked good until they came to Leeds, but played rubbish for us. Then they turn into good players again when we sell 'em. What happened to being able to buy players and improve them? Back in the days of DOL we bought good players and made them better. Despite DOL's shortcomings, no manager since has had any record of doing that.
