Yup, it was Bates speaking of Harding. This must be the Harding that
put £5million into the stand development at Scumford Bridge. Bates has
a very selective memory and can often appear to mirror exactly the
failings he accuses others of.

He bellows on about who should manage what and how they should do it and
then what do we see? A failing manager sacked with not an iota of
succession planning. Perhaps he could do a Failtrack and get Blackie in
on a consultancy until such time as he remembers that a team manager is
not such a bad thing when you're running a professional football club.

"Saviour of Leeds United", my arse. He is neither hands on nor
delegating, the club is adrift amidst a sea of failed promises
pronouncements and barmy schemes. Just look at the excellent job he and
Hemingham have done in bringing the Supporters Club on side. Great
success that has been, other than (yet again) to rip off supporters.
Bates never likes to put his hand in his pocket and why would he when he
has the pockets of ever faithful supporters to regularly dip in to?

Even the world's most groveling Bates apologists, The YEP managed to
notice that something was amiss when they saw that Bates' infamous
programme notes didn't mention anything about the club's current crisis
and what he was going to do about it.

Think on: Bates appears to have a view on everything and then when
faced with the difficult task of sorting Leeds United's latest crisis he
goes all coy and talks about anything but.

There's a wind getting up in Holbeck and its not the guff of endless hot
air that a certain septuagenarian duffer keeps exhaling after another
particularly nice glass of Chateau De Chapeau De Chasselet.

I think Bates is in for a rough ride from now on, perhaps he really
should take realistic advice and sort out a Star Bingo membership for
him and his wifey because his current activities in the Chairman's
office aren't going to result in a full house at SOTG.

PS and before all you octogenarian listers start going on about how
you're still up for it 20 years after signing for your first week's
pension, tell me this: if Bates is so up for it at Leeds why isn't he in
the place 24/7 getting it sorted? Correct, at his age he should be
taking it easy, he should deserve it after a lifetime of work. I've got
no problem with a leisurely retirement, I'd like one myself. What he
shouldn't be doing is taking it easy with our troubled football club......
