yes briggsy....i'd conduct an interview and look for the candidate to sell me his vision and attendant method. His track record and references should assist in determining how likely that is to be the reality, and success of the appointment. (Like any other job really?). Souness is famous for kicking arse, but as 'Mad' Mike wondered, does his method work? Could we get Big Jack interested? And do we need an arse kicker? The Don, O'Neill, Wilko, Fergie, Wenger, Mourhino, O'Leary have all achieved successes with quite different attitudes. Carver looked OK to me on paper - respected by Robson/Shearer and many others at NUFC, already offered a management position, Bates seemingly happy to rely on him and give him a chance - still could be if his learning curve is steep.
