Could also be a lack of Winzip or any other file archiving program.

Erm could it be that you have not installed MS Office yet and therefore
Word not being on the computer it doesn't yet recognise .Doc files?

Sorry for the Janet & John questions - but they have to be asked....

What software did you back up the files from the old computer? If not
the standard MS backup, have you installed the BU software on the new
machine?

Do you still have the old computer? If so can you just copy the files
onto a Zip disk or onto a CD in plain form - then just copy them to the
new computer

OK Guys and Gals

Just to take your mind off the football.

Last week I bought a new computer - Dell Windows XP etc., etc. Set it
up without too much hassle, every thing seeems to be working OK (touch
wood).

So time to transfer my files, word documents etc. Should be just a
matter of copying onto a zip disk and copying onto the new computer (or
so I thought). Duh... not so easy, new computer won't recognise most of
files, and certainly won't recognise the backup format from old
computer.

Help...what do I do?????

PS. Old computer is Gateway Pentium II 400MHz with Windows 98.

Go for it, anything is better than talking about Leeds just now :-(

Cheers

Graham White
