He was good enough to keep us up the first season, and good enough to get us into the playoffs the second season. That was good enough for me and clearly good enough for Bates. The results this season so far have been shit and that was not good enough for me so I thought it was time for him to go. I suspect Bates thought the same but the compensation issue was a BIG issue, luckily for all concerned Blackwell blabbed a bit too much and hung himself. They weren't as good as some expected, they weren't as bad as some expected. Whatever you may say about Blackwell's whingeing, quite often he was right. If we hadn't conceded sloppy goals in the last few mins we would have been in the top 6. How do we know, because Blackwell referred to it several times and Bates either didn't contradict it or stop Blackwell repeating it. His silence said everything. And, by the way, I think that's a perfectly reasonable plan to have.
