Richard,

You're nearly right, I didn't come to the party until later on, I didn't make it on to the hallowed kop until 1975 where I watched my first match as a 5 year old, stood on top of a stool that my uncle carried into the ground (todays stewards would have a fit!!!), can't rememeber who I saw or what the score was (I was five after all and balancing on the stool was high on the list of things to remember). So really, I suppose that I have known football mediocrity for most of my life, apart from in the late eighties / early nineties, and I think that the atmosphere then was the best that I have ever experienced at ER (prior to all of the big time coporate entertainment crap). Yes, I realise that we will never be in a position that Chelsea have been extremely fortunate to find themselves in and to be frank they are perpetuating the club hopping money chasing philosophy of today's footballers, ironically I think that they were one of the few clubs who were as financially unstable as Leeds were. That said it doesn't stop me wanting the best or expecting the best, it is not about hating the players, manager, etc, although there can be a venomous side to negative barracking, for example, harassing the players / famililes in the car park, etc, which I think is a step too far and has no place in society. If I think that the team has played badly I want to have a whinge about it.

A discussion such as this often reflects the expectations of the individual and given that I was not old enough to experience to obvious high that was around in the late 60's / early 70's and hear how good things were when grass was black and white only serves to fuel my expectations, I want to feel the elation of being at wembley (should it ever be finished) and seeing the FA Cup hoisted aloft, past success has a lot to answer for, had Leeds endured similar success to that of Torquay or Scunthorpe I am sure that I would be used to mediocrity but it is you old buggers ;o) mentioning how good the team were that makes me frustrated at todays efforts. Just 'cos you have experienced the football nirvana doesn't mean that I shouldn't want to strive to reach it too.

As for sundays performance, I thought that Leeds played well and were a tad unlucky to have such a brilliant goal scored against deep into injury time, although watching it through on Sky+ suggests a touch of off-side.

BTW, I was off for a lie down in the putting up of feet sense, I have damaged the cartledge / capsule in my hip joint and need to put my feet up ;o)

Cheers

Chris

Chris,

I want a player that puts in as much effort into playing for
Leeds as we do
supporting them!

Which is the better feeling to have, that all round euphoric
adrenalin rush
that greets a goal or the bottom dropped out of your world
feeling of an
opposition goal. I know which one I prefer.

I guess like you I started following the gods in the late 60's and so for 7
years I was used to winning or if not, losing in finals or being 2nd etc.

However that isn't ever going to happen again is it? we'll never be able to match the money chelsea, manu etc have and frankly that's all that going to
matter as regards winning Premier league or europe. We are in the same
position as 90% or Football fans are 90% of the time.

Its going to be a long hard struggle to even get back to an outside chance
of europe, so in the meantime I'll enjoy the little bits of joy that we get
handed and so far this season has seen some reasons to be cheerful. The
attitude of the players in certainly million time better than a couple of
years ago. If i really hated the players or manager or chairman enough to
boo after a decent performance - which most people agree Sunday was, i
wouldn't bother going anymore (as it is I only do 10 or so away games and
maybe 1 or 2 at ER - but that's down to geography and other commitments.) I honestly think that most of the players play to their best ability given the
circumstances most of the time. Having had limited time to gel as a team
and a inexperienced manager all take their toll, but I honestly think that
unlike the tossers who took us down, they do their best and want to win for
Leeds Utd and the fans.

Watching morrison whack the ball in against us at Palace, was depressing,
but we didn't boo, we cheered the team to the rafters, because they had
given 110% or even more, I hope that's going to start happening everyweek,
but it takes time. as an away fan the greatest thing (after winning) for me
to see the the other sets of fans booing or heckling their players.

I need a lie down!

Oi, none of that 110% remember ;-)

ttfn

Richard
