I have said this before and I still haven't heard one way or the other if
there is any truth to it or not, but I suspect that footballers are not
allowed (by the PFA) to waive any part of their contract with clubs. All
they are allowed to do is cancel a contract by mutual consent.

I also think that may also apply to renovating contracts on lesser terms,
but I'm less sure on that point - it could be that players are simply
unwilling to take a drop in wages if they don't have to.

If Bakke doesn't find another club, and he could waive any performance
related payments, its obviously in his best interests to do so. He is in
more of a shop window playing for us than playing for someone like Brann.

Bakke can't have it both ways. Yes, it's not his fault he's on silly
money, but he has the choice - he can take the money and not play, or he
can reduce it and play - quite simple really. In any other business, if
the company could no longer afford you, you'd get made redundant. He's
already a millionaire, but he'd prefer to keep raking it in, rather than
roll up his sleeves and make the effort. His attitude has been suspect (to
say the least) for some time now - he's just marking time and happy to take
the money from the club.
