There's no answer to that :) Unfortunately, I would be very surprised if Bates is looking much further than Hoddle as a replacement. Wise is doing well at Swindon, and probably wouldn't want to come. Other contenders? Newell - just signed a new contract at Luton, I think. Sturrock? Carver Curbishly? - yes please but not available until October and I doubt he'd come Allardyce - can't see him dropping down a division. I'm just glad that Venables has a job now!
