In a press conference earlier today Kevin Blackwell set out fairly and
squarely where he sees the blame lying for his team's less than electric
start to the new campaign. The rather startled culprits according to
Blackwell, Woodlesford U-12's, have so far declined to comment on an
outburst which drags them into a fight that they cannot have seen
coming. "There's just no-one coming through", said Blackwell, "I don't
care that they haven't started shaving yet, " continued the apoplectic
United boss, "they need to learn to be men, every man-jack of them,
needs to take a look at himself, stand up and be counted. I mean they
keep getting knocked off the ball, they're not fit enough to last 90
minutes - and that's down to them and their re-fueling after matches,
its all pepsi and BigMacs and that can't be good for you. There's only
so much the coach can do. I'll give you an example, I told the number 9
that we'll plough the long ball up to him, he can win it and knock it
down to one of the supporting players - do you know how many headers
this kid has won this season, so far? Do you? Let me tell you...none.
Not one. And when I bawled him out about it in the changing rooms after
the game do you know what he said to me after he'd finished crying, do
you? He said "But Mr Blackwell I'm only 4 ft 5..." Excuses, just excuses
that's all I get. How can I work with that kind of attitude around me? I
said, "You need to take a long hard look at yourself sonny if you want
to have a future in this game." Don't talk to me about going through
puberty, that's just the press looking for excuses for the youngsters.
I've got my City & Guilds level 3 coaching badge and I know it's a man's
game."

And with that the red faced Manager picked up his bags and stormed out
saying he wasn't coming down for tea until everyone said they were sorry
to him and everyone agreed he was right.

This is true.
