And sheringham was 40 before he stopped playing. Are you saying we have to discard players as soon as they get to their 30's?
Lets see how Horsfield does first. If he is crap then we wont be buying him in Jan and we will still have the money in the bank to find someone. Hulse's fee is £2.1m rising to a potential £3m, based on appearances and yes on them staying up. Bottom line though, £2.1m in the bank. Sheff Utd wanted £1m for Horsfield, we didnt want to pay that, which is why he is on loan for now. Lets assume they drop the asking price in Jan to £800k and we still want him. That leaves us £1.3m spare for other signings. In an ideal world we wouldnt have sold Hulse. KB said at the start of the summer that they have to generate transfer fees themselves, ie players need to be sold to raise the funds they deem necessary for building the squad. Again, the criticism last season was that we had 6 strikers and yet were short in midfield and defence. We got a good offer for one of our strikers, and as we needed the money to bolster the other areas of the side, we accepted it. If there was a potential offer for one of the other strikers around that money then I have no doubt we would have sold them instead. It boils down to us having plenty of cover in attack, so an obvious area to cash in on a player would be up front. If we didnt have cresswell then I dont think for a minute we would have sold Hulse. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 03 August 2006 14:26 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [email protected] Subject: RE: [LU] RE: Leedslist digest, Vol 1 #365 - 10 msgs >>>We will be buying horsfield in Jan most likely. I don't understand why we would need another striker next season? If horsfield does go back in jan and we don't buy him then we still have that part of the £2.1 - £3m fee to spend don't we!<<< Eh? We need a like for like replacement for Hulse, to hold it up. Hulse is late 20's. Horsefield is 32-34. I thought you wanted us to spend the Hulse bunse on a "+ decent midfielder + decent defender (or whoever)." I also thought that Hulse' fee was £1.8- rising. Assuming that'll be on them staying up. _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
