He knows he needs to get the team back in the prem to be able to sell it,
therefore needs to reinvest any money coming in.
I'm not convinced about this.
I have no argument with the idea that Bates wants to take Leeds back to the
premiership for personal reasons and by that I mean non-financial reasons,
alongside his aim to make a financial killing (again).
Even this season the play offs have demonstrated to possible interested
observers just how massive the potential is at this club.
Without wishing to go over old ground there have always been those people
looking at the club and with substantial funds but who saw the short term
problems and perhaps who were not prepared to inflict further pain on the
fans. Bates has demonstrated no such qualms when it comes to his own pocket.
If we fail to go up for the next two seasons then much of the financial
hangover, at least in terms of annual cash flow, will have expired. The
potential of the club will remain, perhaps even be enhanced. Bates should
be able to sell at a substantial profit with or without promotion. I'm sure
he will have factored this in already. As fans, we have to hope that the
needs of his ego are greater than the knowledge that if he just sits tight
for a little bit longer then the payola is inevitable.
