Small margins indeed Nick - against Palace 2 almost unstoppables off the bar, a
fluke deflected grubber (although Messlier needs to think about his near post
positioning - De Bruyne almost got him as well!) - what annoyed me most was the
4th, as Alioski let Ayew run past him to stand in 3 yards of space in front of
goal - f*cking awful defending. Bamford’s Arm goal should have stood, so on
another day who knows?

More worrying is the combination of our defence being exposed 2 on 2 etc, and
Cooper and Koch flicking legs out against Prem forwards who are expert divers!
That combination is our undoing. We had loads of possession, but teams now know
if they overload our backline there’s goals to be had!

I’m still happy as there are 4 teams on 1,2,3 and 4 points respectively, so 10
is a good start. We need to stay middling though, so a result v Arse would be
very timely. Arse have defensive issues too, so overloading them, and
protecting our defence, might be doable.

I didn’t see the full game in ‘protest’ at the £14.95 BT were charging - wise
decision :-)

On the plus side, Bamford’s 2 goals were very classy indeed - Alan Clarke-esque!

It’s going to be a long season.
