Let's hope Preston, who still have play off aspirations, can do something,
because I really have the jitters over Barnsley - much too similar to the
89/90 promotion when we were massive odds on to hammer them out of sight and
yet managed to lose ( us unbeaten at home prior to this and them with no away
victory that season). That was also our penultimate home game.Before anyone
counters with 'lightning doesn't strike twice ' - remember Wigan the last 2
seasons
As in 89/90 the saving grace is that even a defeat to Barnsley may not be fatal
- then It was Leicester at home ( Strachan " have you ever seen a better goal,
or one better timed") plus , of course Chappy at Bournemouth. This time it
will be ex Frank Lampards now Wayne Rooneys Derby, who are now effectively out
of the play off race and Lee Bowyers Charlton, who hopefully will be safe ( or
down?) by then. So 2 teams with nothing really to play for and no crowd to
spur them on
Weirdly writing this re Barnsley and the fact that it will not cost us
promotion makes me feel miles calmer and more confident that this time we WILL
do it
