It's so like the football authorities to mess this up. VAR is already ruining goal celebration for fans. I know it takes the edge off those moments of joy in other sports too, but those sports tend to have way more occasions to celebrate. In a football match there might only be one such moment, and to have that joy removed by "oh, we'll have to wait for the VAR to decide if anything untoward went on in the minute beforehand" ruins it.
And why, oh why, can't they stop the clock - give that to someone off the field to control? That's one thing they could have taken from other sports, but stubbornly refuse to. One observation though - I note MOTD, or any other male footie game these days, has at least 1 female commentator, giggling alongside Paul Ince or whoever. Women’s world cup - 4 female commentators. Don’t get me wrong, in the main they all talk gramatically incorrect rubbish, but just an observation! One other observation - teams are going to have to start finding goalies taller than 4ft 6”! > On 9 Jun 2019, at 17:49, "[email protected]" <[email protected]> wrote: > > Watched the England v Swiss game and now (sort of watching ) lionesses > v jockettes or whatever they call themselves IF the 2 VAR decisions > are going to be typical of decisions going forward - we are going to > see lots and lots of penalties for handball - she was stood a yard > away when it hit her hand , but this was the 'arm out to affect > things' rule meant the ref gave England a penalty In the proper game > if the foul by Wilson is enough to disallow a goal we are going to see > lots of goals from corners and free kicks chalked off due to 'pushing > and pulling ' in the area In fact I can see plenty of times when a > goal is scored from a corner and the ref via VAR will see that a > forward pushed someone and cancel the goal but then see that a > defender had pulled an attackers shirt before that, and so give a > penalty ?
