Jeez it's nerve-shredding.............but as several people have said, whatever happens from here on in, it's been a great season.
I thought the players showed real class and character last night. I have been worrying about that match for weeks, looking at Preston's growing momentum. In the end, they were surprisingly rubbish, although that begs the age-old question of were they bad, or did we make them look bad? We still have two more games against similarly on-form teams in Weds & Villa. It is totally pointless to speculate on team changes, since if there's one thing I have learned about El Genius, it is that he keeps the same team unless forced to change by injury or suspension. But still.......I do think we'd be stronger with Berra in at LB, with Alioski pushed forward and Harrison dropped. Or even Berra & Clarke down the left in place of the two of 'em. Alioski does remain an infuriating player. That stupid foul he committed on the corner of the box in the last few minutes last night...........it was SO needless and potentially damaging. Playing against 10 men, v a team with a height advantage, Gianni, what is the ONE thing you really don't want to do? Equally, I was a bit concerned about Phillips at the end. He was absolutely majestic for 85 mins, but he went haywire in the last 5. He got himself stupidly booked for dissent, then launched himself two-footed into a mistimed tackle on the touchline where there was no threat at all. This was in a game where the ref has sent off a home player, so you just know he would love to even things out if he got the chance. I thought Phillips was very lucky there. Both of those instances are examples of basic game management which I would expect from the schoolkids I used to coach, let alone professionals. However, don't want to dwell on negatives.
