Despite a second half which we largely controlled and kept the ball well, we
did not make their keeper make a single proper save all game. Second half our
only real chance was agian Ayling but it was cleared on the lineIt was a pre
season friendly so don't want to read too much into it, but I did not see
anything that makes this team different from last season. Even worse some of
our faults are still there- we conceded from one corner from a header then
nearly let in another from some head tennis after another cornerPhillips still
needs a hair cut- twice he made great tackles but then stood around sorting out
his hair!Saiz still petulant and threw the ball at the ref - booking in a real
game- when he did not get the decision. Whilst he did OK he does seem to have
lost his goal scoring touch and did not appear to want to score.
Roberts had a 30minute cameo - looked good straightaway but then after first
couple of minutes he never got the ball so hard to work out if he is any good
Cooper looked solid at the back - but he often did last season- too early to
know if he can keep it up for full 90 (ooer missus) and keep his concentration.
Berardi played like he does - lots of last ditch tackling and getting stuck in
, he came out with the ball well on a few occasions but not sure he is good
enough in the air to be a centre back.
Forshaw, along with Ayling (especially first half for him) was man of the
match, he really strolls around the pitch as if he owns it and keeps the ball
so well- hate comparing players to ex players but he does have a touch of the
david Battys - high praise
Apart from de Bock who only did 60mins (Dallas went back to left back) all of
them played a full 90mins, unlike Southend who made around ten subs in total.
This has some merit in getting them ready for the start of the season but we
only have 3 more games to get them used to the formation, system and personnel
that will be starting v Stoke.
Another decent run out against very average opponents. We desperately need a
proper striker - almost worth whatever the cost- who can score goals and worry
the opposition - Roofe for all his hard work etc is not that man
