Subject: [LU] LU: Dave McAdam's Funeral

I went to Dave’s funeral yesterday in Burton on Trent, another pal gone.
As you get old, you seem to hear of friends deaths every two minutes.
The crematorium chapel was quite large and every row of pews were
occupied. We had, about a forty minute hold up on the A1, due to an
accident and just got there on time for the start of the service, which was
very nice. Afterwards everyone went to the Pirrelli Stadium, home of
Burton Albion it’s a small but superb stadium, everything seemed brand
spanking new. The area where the refreshments and drinks were consumed
had lots of tables and I assume this was the main restaurant for the stadium.
This overlooked the playing area and the pitch looks magnificent with sprinklers
watering the, lovely green plush turf. As we entered the reception area there
were
posters telling us this was the venue for Dave’s good bye’s, wake or whatever
it’s
called. At the top of the stairs we went along a very long corridor and on the
right
hand side were all the doors to the executive boxes, for the match day patrons,
all numbered as I said earlier, every thing was pristine and very smart. The
people
were wonderful, Dave’s daughter Sue, had mentioned to other mourners we had
travelled from the North and she introduced me to Ben Robinson the Burton Albion
Chairman, who I have to say is a lovely bloke and very sincere and friendly. I
asked
Ben, if Leeds United had sent a representative, of course they hadn’t, which I
felt a
bit embarrassed about. If it had been one of Leeds superstars, I’m sure there
would
have been quite a few there, but journeyman footballers such as Dave get no
respect
or recognition shown to them in my opinion and I think that’s a shame…………At
least
I was there to represent the Leeds fans and list, and felt honoured to be
there. On my
blazer lapel I had the old Blue & old gold LU Supporters club badge from the
50’s and
60’s. The buffet was all laid out in one of the executive boxes and then
carried through
to the main dining area where there was tea and coffer urns and the bar. As we
left
there was a football match in progress on the practice pitch between Burton
Albion
ladies and Birmingham ladies. All in all, obviously, a very sad occasion but
Dave’s
life was celebrated and at the the age of ninety four he certainly had been
fortunate
enough to have a long and happy life. He was a great person to know, generous
and
a true gentleman. RIP Dave McAdam, you will be missed, greatly, by many people.
