Mekonville will celebrate 40 years of music by The Mekons over a 3 day
family-friendly arts festival July 28^th -30^th in Pettaugh, rural Suffolk.
In 1977 a group of Leeds art students started a band and in 2017 The
Mekons, now based in the US, are still going strong. The current line up
will be joining the original 1977 band for the first time in over 3
decades, together with a stellar selection of special guests to be
announced plus the best of new music; local, national and international.
The festival will take place in a beautiful 12 acre moated garden in the
Suffolk countryside at Laffitts Hall in Pettaugh, the residence of
original Mekon, Andy Corrigan. As well as a variety of musical acts,
there will be poetry, theatrical performances, arts and crafts, gorgeous
local food, and an array of other activities for adults and children alike.
The idea came about when current and founder Mekon, Jon Langford, in
Suffolk for a solo slot at 2016’s Maverick Festival got together with
Corrigan and thought that the home of Pettafiesta, which is taking a
break this year to accommodate Mekonville, would be the perfect place to
celebrate the band’s 40^th anniversary.
/Jon Langford says/“As 6 teenage art students we formed a band. Who’d
have thought we would have still been going all these years later?
Mekonville will feature every element of the performing arts we can cram
into a weekend.”
/Andy Corrigan says:/“The spirit of the Mekons was youth, inexperience
and conviction. Mekonville will put together a weekend of entertainment
that embodies those qualities across what will be a multi-generational
celebration both on stage and off.”
