Whilst I generally try to retain a faint air of upbeat optimism like Rob H,
I have to say I agree with Rich on this one.

Watch it again Rob - it was abject defending, that reeked of a player with
no confidence in his own actions. He went to smack it clear, but then never
really did it with conviction. So it was more prodded into the attacker's
shins rather than hammered. A decent clogger at the back would have
launched it high into the stands. A more skillful defender may have tried
to turn and move out towards to touchline. Wootton didn't do either. He
half did the first option but not really.

He's one of the those sub-par players that if you put him in a winning team
alongside a good centre half you might just carry him and his weakness
would not be exposed (and he may possibly develop). Unfortunately in our
squad at present, that looks directionless and chronically lacking in any
belief as to what they are doing, he is only going to get worse. That's
probably why it's best not to blood any youth in the remaining games -
given the current feel of the team, the experience could set them back
rather than build them.

That said, I, just to annoy Rich, do still have belief that with the right
players around him Murphy could still blossom.
