To be honest I was very surprised to see the possession stats - I did think we 'surrendered' the midfield to them for a while after our opening goal but I never thought we were in danger of losing or even drawing the game (of course you can never be totally confident at only 1 nil, especially given our lack of clean sheets over the last few seasons) It does seem odd that we have won 5 on the trot at home - it does not seem that we have played that well or that ER has become a 'fortress' but everyone has got to be happy with that statistic Not everything in the garden is rosy by any means but I do feel that the whole aura around the club is so much better this season than last, and there is a belief that we are 'turning the corner'
I am sort of 'glass half full' - a win covers a multitude of problems - AFTER a good result BUT never go to a game expecting us to win , so pre match I am 'glass half empty' / pessimist I just think it is very easy to criticise players at this level - they all have major flaws- rather than look at what they do well. Paddy Kenny is a good example of this - as a shot stopper he is second to none in this League, but his inability to come off his line and deal with corners etc makes him a liability. Some of my mates focus on the former and rate Kenny, others concentrate on the latter and want us to get rid ! Whatever , roll on Saturday, and lets hope we can get another win and another clean sheet. I do think, that long term, McDermott IS the right man and will come good. Stats dont say ever but they had 65% and it felt like that watching it. Ben Watson ran midfielf ftom start to finish and frankly both Austin and Murphy were awful. BMcD plays a 5 in middle cos we are so poor in middle. Pugh is a liability and Peltier is not fit. Dont get me going about Lees. Very lucky last night. Concerned no subs or change in tactics despite being outplayed. McCormack was difference but Mowatt is a breath of fresh air.
