3 points and a clean sheet - so job done. Yes it was not the prettiest or greatest performance, especially first half, but we did what we needed to do and deserved the win. We missed Byram as right wing back, albeit Peltier had a decent game, and then things got even stranger when Warnock went off just before half time and Pearce ended up as left wing back ! The weather was awful with huge gusting winds (perhaps the hardest weather to play good football in) and then a couple of torrential downpours, but no sure why we had the coloured ball ? We started brightly and Mowatt again showed he is real class with a great shot when off balance that the keeper did well to save, then Rody put in a good cross that Smith only had to touch to open the scoring but somehow he contrived to hit fresh air and the chance went begging. After that it reminded me of some of the games when we played a team from a lower league in cup competitions - Yoevil suddenly realised that we were not that good and found a bit of confidence and drive and took the game to us. For the second quarter of the game they were the better team but never really looked like scoring, on the odd occasion they did open us up the final ball or the strikers touch let them down. We were a bit grateful to get to half time but that was not, to my mind, enough excuse for those fans who booed them off at half time - it really annoys me. We are called 'supporters; and are supposed to support the team! Yes I know we pay our money etc etc but whilst it is just about excusable to boo at the end, there really is no point in doing it at half time.
Anyway within a minute of the second half starting we took the lead, Rody put Ross through and whilst a cross looked to be the better option Ross fired it past the keeper - a good goal and put me and my mates in our place (we had been discussing Ross in the pub and pretty much all agreed we had been conned by him and his agent and should have taken the money) Rody and Ross then linked up even better 15 mins or so later when a lovely weighted ball from Rody split the defence and Ross timed his run and slotted it home. Game over. Blackstock came on for the largely ineffective Smith and did look like a decent player and was a bit unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. They had little to offer but did force Kenny into one good save. So like I said at the start job done - not the best game or performance and it is one of the games you expect to win , and we did. Another 2 for Ross (8? already for the season) and Blackstock looked like he has something to offer. Rody whilst not quite hitting the heights of the Birmingham game had a good game and was the difference between the teams, when he plays well he looks a good player and we do well, how he can then turn into a pile of crap in other games is beyond me. Mowatt continues to impress, and Pearce stuck to his tasks well. Marius looks big and was no-nonsense a couple of times, not quite the 'majestic Rolls Royce' that Redfearn talked about but he may be able to 'do a job' I don't think we learned anything new - we will probably hover in and around the play off places and then fall short, but Mcdermott must be given a few seasons to follow through on his long term plans. 25k shows that the cheap(er) ticket promotions are working Great to be back , fit and well (well almost) Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] MARCHING ON TOGETHER
