No, no and no. 4-5-1 hasn't been working with or without Becchio for a lot of the games this year.
Paynter hasn't had a fair crack of the whip yet. What he has showed so far is way below what is expected but he's not that bad. Becchio was not exactly free scoring when he came in to the side 3 years ago - I think he got 1 in his first 9 outings. Paynter hasn't even had 9 starts for Leeds yet I don't think so I think it's much too early to judge. It's making me sick to hear people talking now about Becchio as if he is our saviour. Did they note our form with him in the side since Christmas ??? FFS ! and as for Keogh here's my die hard Wolves mates view: He’s an average championship striker at best. Might do as cover in your squad but he’s not going to get you 30 goals a season. In the pecking order at Wolves I’d say he’s behind Doyle, Fletcher, Ebanks-Blake and Meirhoffer. Probably on a par with Vokes who we gave you for a bit a while back and did nowt for you. ----- Original Message ---- From: Mark Humphries <[email protected]> To: Ian Murray <[email protected]>; [email protected] Cc: listleedslist <[email protected]> Sent: Mon, 15 August, 2011 15:45:37 Subject: Re: [LU] Andy Keogh I think most of the anti-Becchio brigade were rooting for him, and I think all the fans have Paynter more than a fair chance to prove himself. For some reason he just isn't doing it, preseason is the perfect chance to wipe the slate clean and get some confidence back by scoring shitloads in training/friendlies. You would have thought with 2 proper wingers we'd be perfect for him too. But what it does do is again highlight the merits of Becchio - oh what we'd give for a few Paynter mis-hits/tap-ins or whatever right now, but I'd even settle for harassing the defence which he doesn't do as effectively as Becchio either. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Ian Murray Sent: 15 August 2011 15:31 To: [email protected] Cc: listleedslist Subject: Re: [LU] Andy Keogh Clearly won't happen if he doesn't play. He had been massively let down by the fans. Sent from my iPhone On 15 Aug 2011, at 15:25, [email protected] wrote: > It's not about fairness. I'd say Grella has a better goalscoring record than Paynter in competitive games for us, but Grayson would apparently play a 20-year-old debutant defender as center-forward when we need a goal than he would give Grella a chance. That's not fair either, as far as I'm concerned. To me it's all about scoring goals in the league, and Paynter just hasn't done that. And he's gotten himself injured at the start of two seasons in a row. I'd have sold him (and Grella, since Grayson clearly doesn't rate him) this summer, to be honest with you. Maybe Paynter was good for Swindon, but he isn't good enough for us. > > (And of course, I'd love nothing more than to be proven wrong by > Paynter coming back from injury, establishing himself as the first > choice center-forward and scoring 30 goals as he powers us to > automatic promotion.
