As a infrequent poster and lurker, I thought I would chime with my 0.02
cents.

I would agree with all of what you wrote. My only issue is this--football
clubs that are (successfully) run as a business tend not to be very
successful on the pitch. Although I am well aware of our history and I am
glad that the LUFC ship is being run in a somewhat fiscally sensible manner,
I am pessimistic of what that means in the long term for our fortunes on the
field.

I'm not sure how many have read the book Soccernomics--or if my having read
it (twice!) makes me a quack--but the authors have made certain assertions
that are noteworthy. Football clubs run like a business inevitably fail to
bring in trophies, overspending is more successful, wage budgets have more
of an effect on league position than transfer budgets--these are some of the
points made, the last should perhaps be noted by those who complain we bring
in the frees and don't splash the cash in the transfer market. For those who
haven't read it, it's worth a look. LUFC get a few mentions (Clough is a
case study of sorts in the book).

Torrey
