So based on that statement, I gather Delphi project compatibly stops there.
Unless I guess FPC implements yet another new compiler mode or
something, but even so, it will be a sh*t load of work for the FPC
developers to fix all internal code that will get broken (code that
relies on a Char=1byte), just to try and maintain compatibility.

Even for developers using multpile versions of Delphi, I can't see how
they can maintain backward compatibility with such a change.  All
projects supporting multiple compilers will have issues.

Or am I not understanding the effect such a change will have?
