They are updated before compilation. Not on just opening a unit.
I would keep them.
If the first thing after a checkout is to compile, then yes.
But what about people checking out and explore the sources first? They will
get a lot of missing include files.
And only those .lrs are updated, that belongs to a unit of the project (i.e.
.lpi file).
