they do not auto-close, but you can close them with a single
keyboard-shortcut
I use Alt-Shift-1 to fold
Alt-Shift-2 to fold one level below, etc
Alt-Shift-0 to unfold all.
I do not know/remember if this are set up by default => go to options
esitor/keymapping and look for code fold
