I'll create a patch for Lazarus shortly. The VERSION_FILE.inc is located in the 'src' directory of fpGUI, and Lazarus IDE doesn't have an include path set for that. I'll improve the Lazarus search paths for LCL-fpGUI so you would only need to create one symlink to fpGUI instead of the current two (corelib & gui).
