You're correct, I don't read the forums. I tend to the view that if I can't collect it with Thunderbird, then I don't have time to log in around all the various forums for my different packages, interests etc. FWIW, all that I've done (using Ubuntu 18.04, but also with previous versions of Ubuntu and Debian) is to lock all the FPC and Lazarus packages against upgrade from the repositories. When a new version comes out, I just download the DEBs from Sourceforge and install those manually. If there's a problem with using the DEBs from Sourceforge, then I'd like to know about it.
