I've just realised the major arse of doing this with subVIs rather than strict typedefs; you only have a small icon to represent your constant, whereas with the typedef you actually have your constant value, and label if necessary, visible immediately on the diagram. What would be nice would be an extra type of custom control that's stronger than a strict typedef in that, as well as specifying size, colour etc parameters it also specifies value.
