Hi Christopher,

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but several years back, I worked on a project that incorporated three Brooks Flow Controllers. According to my notes, the model numbers were: 586OE, 5836A1, and 5835D2. (In fact, I'm sure I still have them in a box somewhere if you are interested in picking them up for a bargain... ;)

Anyway, as I recall, the programming was relatively straight-forward. I communicated with them over RS-232, and as I recall, the (somewhat sparse) information in the documentation was adequate -- with a little reading between the lines and experimentation.

The units I used would be about 7 or 8 years old now. I don't know if the communication protocol may have changed for newer models. However, if you are interested, let me know. I probably have the old VIs archived somewhere (in LV 3.1 or LV 4.X format), and I can take a look for you.

P.S. How are your book sales coming along...? ;)

Cheers,

Dave Ritter

G'Day all,

Has anyone had any experience using Brooks Smart Series Flow
Controllers? We've had a customer contact us, and is interested in talking
to their controllers using RS-485, but we haven't had any luck in finding
the comms protocols...

Ta,
Chris
